East Russia are described. The genus Pterogenia
Bigot is recorded in the Palaearctic Region for the
first time. An improved key to and review of the genera of the Platystomatidae known to occur in
Palaearctic Region and bordering areas is provided.
Čiampor Jr., F.
2001. Systematic revision of the genus Graphelmis (Coleoptera: Elmidae)
I. Redescription of the genus and description of four new species. Entomol. Probl.
32(1): 17-32.
Detailed redescription of the Elminae genus Graphelmis
Delčve is provided, with addition of new character
states. Hind wing venation and SEM pictures of diagnostic characters, which
in combination characterise this genus within the subfamily Elminae, are given. Four new
Graphelmis species from Southeast Asia are described.
Shaverdo, H. & Fery, H.
2001. Hydroporus crinitisternus sp.nov. from South-Eastern Kazakhstan and
Mongolia (Coleoptera: Dytiscidae). Entomol. Probl. 32(1): 33-36.
Hydroporus crinitisternus sp.nov. is described from south-eastern
Kazakhstan and Mongolia. The species is placed in the H. planus-group of Hydroporus
Clairville, 1806. This new taxon has a
striking feature, particularly developed in males, which so far has not been observed in this
species group nor in any other Palaearctic Hydroporus, the prosternum being provided with a
tuft of long yellowish white hairs behind its anterior margin.
Kodada, J. 2001.
Pedestrodryops enroedyi gen. et sp. nov., a new terrestrial,
wingless dryopid from South Africa (Coleoptera: Dryopidae).
Entomol. Probl. 33 (1): 37-44.
The new genus Pedestrodryops of terrestrial Dryopidae is described
for P. enroedyi, new species from South Africa. The specimens were collected by sifting
forest litter in Dorren Clark Natural Reserve. Pedestrodryops is characterised by the
combination of the long dorsal vestiture, the sublateral pronotal sulci, the antennal
configuration and by the type of antennal sensilla. Within Dryopidae, the most similar is the
genus Protoparnus Sharp, 1883 from
New Zealand. Taxonomically important characters are discussed and illustrated with scanning
electron photographs and line drawings.
Jäch, M.A.
2001. Revision of the Palearctic species of the genus Ochthebius XVIII.
The European species of the O. semisericeus complex(Coleoptera: Hydraenidae).
Entomol. Probl. 32(1): 45-53.
The European species of the Ochthebius semisericeus
Sainte-Claire Deville species complex
(Coleoptera: Hydraenidae) are reviewed taxonomically. Ochthebius gestroi
Gridelli, O. griotes
Ferro, O. semotus
dOrchymont, and O. sennius
dOrchymont are resurrected from synonymy with
O. semisericeus. Three new species are described: O. gayosoi [Spain],
O. iternuptialis [Greece], and O. preissi [Cyprus].
Schillhammer, H.
2001. A new nidicolous Philonthus from the Caucasus and an additional
record of Bisnius speculicollis (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae).
Entomol. Probl. 32(1): 55-57
Philonthus lyaysteri sp.nov., another new nidicolous rove beetle
(Coleoptera: Staphylinidae, Staphylininae) from the burrows of Prometheomys schaposchnikovi
Satunin, 1901, is described from
the Caucasus. The species is placed in the Philonthus tenuicornis species group. It occurs
sympatric with Bisnius speculicollis
Solodovnikov & Schillhammer, 2000, for which an
additional record is provided. The aedeagus as well as abdominal details of both sexes of the
new species are illustrated.
Zettel, H. 2001.
First notes on the Helotrephidae (Heteroptera) of Kalimantan Barat,
Indonesia: descriptions of three new species of Hydrotrephes,
and first records of Tiphotrephes from Borneo.
Entomol. Probl. 32(1): 59-64.
Three new species of the genus Hydrotrephes are described from Kalimantan Barat, Borneo:
Hydrotrephes flavus sp.nov. of the H. bouvieri group, H. luaae sp.nov. and
H. nitidulus sp.nov. of the H. martini group. Tiphotrephes indicus
(Distant, 1910) is recorded from Borneo for the first
time.
Bezděk, A. & Křivan, V.
2001. Odochilus (Parodochilus) jani sp.nov.
from Sabah, Borneo (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae: Aphodiinae).
Entomol. Probl. 32(1): 65-67.
Odochilus (Parodochilus) jani sp.nov. is described from Sabah (Borneo) and its
diagnostic characters are illustrated. The holotype of O. (P.) jani sp.nov.,
as well as holotype and paratype No 1 of recently described O. (P.) thailandicus
Rakovič, 1997 are deposited in the collection of
MHNG. O. (P.) thailandicus is recorded from Malaysia for the first time.
Fedor, P. J. & Majzlan, O.
2001. On the distribution of the small earwig Labia minor
(Dermaptera: Labiidae) in Slovakia. Entomol. Probl. 32 (1): 68.
The small earwig Labia minor (Linnaeus, 1758),
with an almost worldwide cosmopolitan distribution, represents the only earwig of the Labiidae
subfamily in Slovakia. It occurs in various meadows, fields, margins of forests and
often in garden manure. Despite its widespread presence in Slovakia, it does not seem to be a
common species generally and the available data on its distribution here are presented in this
article.
Hernando, C., Aguilera,
P. & Ribera, I. 2001. Limnius stygius sp.nov., the first stygobiontic riffle
beetle from the Palearctic Region (Coleoptera: Elmidae).
Entomol. Probl. 32(1): 69-72.
The first Palearctic stygobiontic species of Elmidae, Limnius stygius sp.nov., is described
from a karstic river in SW Morocco. It has the typical morphology of other subterranean elmids: it is
weakly pigmented, microphthalmic, brachypterous, with an extended plastron, and has a flattened and
slender body. A single male was found in an upwelling zone in an intermittent river, which
originates in the nearby cave of Win-Timdouine.
Koál, M. & Holecová,
M. 2001. Neotype designation of Onyxacalles pyrenaeus and
description of its sibling species Onyxacalles boehmei sp. nov. from Central Europe
(Coleoptera: Curculionidae). Entomol. Probl. 32(1): 73-78.
A new species, Onyxacalles boehmei, as a sibling species to Onyxacalles pyrenaeus
(Boheman, 1844) is described. A neotype of
Onyxacalles pyrenaeus (Boheman, 1844) is
designated. Differential diagnosis and geographical distribution of both sibling species,
illustrations and key to all four Central European Onyxacalles species are given. Moreover,
the practical quideline to differential diagnosis of Onyxacalles pyrenaeus-group is included.
Mostovski, M.B. &
Disney, R.H.L. 2001. A new species of Phora (Diptera: Phoridae) from Kamchatka, with
comments on the groundplan of the family. Entomol. Probl. 32(1): 79-83.
Phora archepyga Mostovski, sp.nov. is described
from Kamchatka peninsular. The new species has symmetrical male genitalia that prompt comments on
the groundplan of both the genus and the family, and revised homology of the former right surstylus
in other Phora species.
Zavada, A.G.
2001. New Palearctic Species of Torymus (Hymenoptera, Torymidae).
Entomol. Probl. 32(1): 85-90.

T. terentianus sp.nov. from Northern Kazakhstan, are described. A new record of
T. arcticus Thomson is reported.
Wewalka, G., Balke,
M. & Hendrich, L. 2001. Anginopachria, a new genus for an enigmatic species
previously assigned to Allopachria (Coleoptera: Dytiscidae).
Entomol. Probl. 32(1): 91-92.
A new genus of Dytiscidae (Hyphydrini) is described: Anginopachria gen. nov.
Allopachria ullrichi (Balke & Hendrich, 1999)
is transferred to the new genus and selected as type species. This Malaysian species is the only
representative of the genus, known so far.
Kočárek, P. 2001.
Description of pre-imaginal stages of Apterygida media
(Dermaptera: Forficulidae), with a key to nymphs of Central European Dermaptera
species. Entomol. Probl. 32(1): 93-97.
The eggs and four nymphal instars of Short-winged Earwig Apterygida media
(Hagenbach, 1822) are described. Individual instars are
defined and keyed by the number of antennal and tarsal segments, and the measurement of body
characters. An identification key to the nymphs of species Labidura riparia,
Apterygida media, Forficula auricularia and Chelidurella spp is provided.
